This process involves:

  • The Commissioner recruitment usually commences during May and the vacancies are advertised in the relevant media sources by the end of May.
  • Filling in the application form.
  • Submission of a CV, including all relevant documentation in support of the application.
  • The candidates are shortlisted based on their knowledge, skills and experience in dispute resolution.
  • The candidates that meet the basic minimum requirements are then requested to participate in a knowledge-based assessment that is conducted at various CCMA regional offices.
  • On successful completion of the assessment, candidates are invited to an initial interview with an interviewing panel of CCMA managers who recommend successful candidates for a final interview with the CCMA Governing Body panel. The successful candidates are then formally appointed and issued with a conditional offer of employment and required to attend a six (6) months training programme which needs to be successfully completed.
  • On completion of the training programme, the individuals are formally appointed either as Full Time or Part Time Commissioners. This means the individuals are fully accredited by the CCMA to perform the duties of Commissioner.
